Furman of The Year When Moving 🐶

Picture this: our movers are gearing up for the day, inspecting equipment, and ensuring the ramp is securely in place. Out of nowhere, a dog—let’s call him Buddy—struts up with the confidence of someone who’s been moving furniture for years. The furmen on moving day pauses at the base of the ramp, sniffs around to “inspect,” and then plants himself squarely in the middle of the ramp as if to say, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this covered.”

Cue laughter. Furmen on moving wasn’t just watching; he was taking his new role very seriously. His keen eye (and twitching nose) seemed to evaluate every item that passed by. Were those boxes sturdy enough? Did they smell like something he could chew on later? He wasn’t just a dog anymore—he was “Furman of the Year!

We’ve seen it all in our time as Nanaimo’s trusted moving company:

• Cats perched on packed boxes, looking like rulers of their cardboard kingdoms.
• Dogs racing through the house in excitement (or confusion) as furniture gets rearranged.
• Parrots offering unsolicited advice, squawking things like “Watch out!” or “Good job!”

But Buddy on the ramp? That was a first. He wasn’t just part of the move—he was the main event.

His human, clearly used to his antics, laughed and said, “This is why we can’t have nice things.” But at the end of the day, Buddy’s presence made the move even more memorable.

• Of course, not every pet is as cool and collected as Buddy. Some animals get stressed during moves, which is why it’s important to prepare them for the big day:

  1. Introduce Them to the Action: Let your pet sniff the boxes and moving supplies ahead of time. It helps them feel more comfortable with the changes.
  2. Create a Safe Space: During the actual move, keep pets in a quiet, secure room with their favorite toys, blankets, and maybe a treat or two.
  3. Pack a Pet Bag: Just like you’d pack essentials for yourself, pack a bag with food, water, medications, and anything your pet might need for the day.
  4. Keep Them Close: If your pet is like Buddy and insists on “helping,” make sure they’re safe and out of the way of heavy furniture and equipment.
