You’re planning to pack on your own. We understand. However, careful packing and getting ready could potentially prevent a claim once the move is over.

1. Set aside a specific area for items that are too precious to pack or move yourself.

2. Attach removable colored dot stickers to the items you’ll be moving by yourself.

3. Keep a special box for small parts like remotes, wheels, and other tiny pieces in one place for easy access.

4. Opt for moving company-approved boxes over reused boxes from liquor or grocery stores for a professional packing approach.

5. Secure your valuable items such as jewelry, important documents, and guns before the moving crew comes to ensure their safety and concealment.

6. Back up your computer systems and hard drives before you start packing your electronics.

7. Allow at least 24 hours for your fridge and freezer to thaw out before the move, and leave the doors open to ensure they’re completely dry.

8. Arrange for the care of your children and pets while the move is in progress. Remember, you’re not allowed to go into the moving truck for safety reasons. Make sure your movers take precautions to safeguard your floors, stairways, and banisters.
