Your route, in either direction

Your Vancouver move, planned across Canada

For a long-distance move from Vancouver or an arrival from another province, connect the building access, shipment and delivery dates before booking. Take A Load Off Moving books and coordinates moves through the Great Canadian Van Lines network. GCVL lists TALO as its Nanaimo agent; your shipment does not need a Nanaimo stop. Share both addresses so the service can be planned around your actual homes.

Coordinate the condo elevator and the curb separately

A Vancouver elevator reservation covers access inside the building; it does not establish where the moving vehicle can load outside. Ask management for the service entrance, loading bay, moving hours and required paperwork. Then explain the distance from that entrance to the elevator and your unit.

If suitable private loading space is unavailable, review the City's street occupancy guidance for moving trucks. A request to reserve public curb space is a separate arrangement. For a house, photograph stairs, lane access and tight approaches before the estimate is finalized.

  • Confirm who handles the building booking and any curb-space request.
  • Share elevator dimensions for unusually large furniture.
  • Flag restricted loading hours at either home.

Match the departure plan to the receiving home

Leaving a Vancouver condo for a Calgary house means coordinating an elevator at pickup and driveway access at delivery. Arriving in Vancouver from a house elsewhere reverses that problem: the shipment may be ready, while the receiving building still needs an appointment. Provide the details at both ends rather than reserving only the first elevator.

For a Metro Vancouver address, use the actual municipality and postal code. Check the appropriate municipal guidance for that location. If possession is delayed, discuss storage, later delivery and additional handling before booking.

  • Separate the date you leave from the date you receive furniture.

Include ferries only when your route needs them

A mainland move between Vancouver and another Canadian city does not automatically involve Vancouver Island. If either property is on the Island, discuss the proposed ferry connection explicitly. BC Ferries identifies routes by terminal pairs, such as Tsawwassen–Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay–Departure Bay, rather than treating every Vancouver–Nanaimo crossing as the same journey.

Use BC Ferries' current departures information for your own travel when a crossing is needed. Ask the coordinator which connection is proposed for the shipment and how it is accounted for in the estimate.

  • Identify whether either address is on Vancouver Island.
  • Ask which dates are confirmed and which remain estimated.

Get an estimate that reflects what is moving

Include a room-by-room inventory, boxes, furniture sizes and items needing extra care. Mention a piano, artwork, a large sectional or anything that may not fit the elevator. Decide whether to pack yourself or request help, then ask what is included and priced separately.

Carry medication, documents and arrival essentials yourself. Review the service, timing, responsibilities and coverage choices before booking.

  • Provide both addresses and your preferred moving window.

Useful local planning

Check the details for Vancouver

Use these official resources when arranging access or checking travel conditions. Requirements depend on the property and route; discuss anything that affects your shipment with the carrier.

City of Vancouver: reserve parking for a moving truck

Use the City's moving-truck guidance to check how to request reserved curb space when your building has no suitable private loading area.

BC Ferries: current departures and arrivals

Check the terminal pair and current sailing information for your own travel when your move involves Vancouver Island.

Vancouver long-distance moving questions

Does my condo elevator booking reserve parking for the moving truck?

Treat them as separate tasks. Ask the building about its loading bay, then review City guidance if public curb space is needed. Confirm who will arrange each part before accepting the moving date.

What matters most for a delivery into a Vancouver condo?

Confirm possession, a receiving contact, elevator access and the permitted moving hours. Give those details alongside the origin inventory so the long-distance service and the building appointment can be coordinated together.

Does every Vancouver long-distance move need a ferry?

No. A mainland origin and destination do not require an Island crossing simply because TALO is based in Nanaimo. Where a crossing is part of the proposal, confirm the terminal pair and shipment arrangements.

Will I get an exact delivery date immediately?

Ask which dates are confirmed, whether a delivery window applies and how updates will be communicated before planning around an exact arrival.

Start with your route

Where are you moving?

Moving from or to Vancouver? Include the other end of your route, your preferred loading date and the size of your move.

  • Both addresses and postal codes, if available.
  • Inventory, photos and any heavy or fragile items.
  • Stairs, elevators, parking and truck access.
  • Possession dates and any gap before delivery.

Use the move-details box to describe your route. Sending a request starts a conversation; it does not reserve a date or confirm a price.
